Job descriptionDevelop and maintain a comprehensive legal compliance matrix and statutory calendar covering on-roll and contract workforce. Drive full adherence to statutory submissions (monthly, half-yearly, annual) in line with Factories Act and related regulations. Coordinate with statutory authorities for approvals and inspections, collaborating closely with HR and plant leadership. Identify statutory gaps from Material Review Meetings and facilitate closure of pending actions with relevant departments. Prepare and submit mandatory HSE reports (e.g., water returns, treated water reports, accident reports) to government agencies. Ensure systematic conduct of Toolbox Talks, hazard communication, PPE compliance, and resolution of HSE issues raised by plant teams. Ensure all site activities are undertaken only after valid work permits, safety clearances, and adequate supervision. Conduct comprehensive risk assessments across operations; evaluate existing controls and identify enhancements to minimize risk. Lead and coordinate all internal and external HSE, electrical, and safety audits; review observations and drive timely closure of non-conformities. Maintain and improve safety management systems aligned with ISO, OHSAS / ISO 45001, and corporate HSE standards. Plan and execute annual HSE training calendar for employees, contract labour, and vendors. Track training completion, evaluate effectiveness, and conduct skill assessments to monitor improvement. Identify and groom internal safety champions / SMEs capable of driving shop-floor trainings and safety practices. Conduct awareness sessions on hazard identification, emergency response, PPE usage, safe material handling, and machine safety. Lead the response for incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions; ensure thorough investigation using root-cause analysis tools (5-Why, Fishbone, etc.). Ensure implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to avoid recurrence. Establish and periodically review onsite emergency plans, evacuation drills, mock drills, and crisis management protocols. Maintain readiness of emergency systems such as fire alarms, extinguishers, hydrants, and safety equipment. Drive continuous improvement initiatives under TPM pillars such as SHE, AM, PM, and FI. Monitor KPIs including LTIFR, near-miss rate, unsafe act / condition reporting, and contractor safety compliance. Work closely with production and engineering teams to embed safety into daily management systems and Kaizen activities. Promote a safety-first culture through campaigns, behaviour-based safety initiatives, and leadership walk-throughs. Strong understanding of statutory regulations under the Factories Act, OSH Code, and related state rules. Expertise in risk assessment methodologies, HIRA, JSA, FMEA, and machine guarding norms. Hands-on experience with safety permits (Hot work, Confined space, Height work, Electrical isolation etc.). Experience in managing large-scale manufacturing setups with diverse workforce. Strong communication, conflict management, and cross-functional coordination skills. Proficiency in audit management, documentation, and reporting.
Role Summary
- The Manager - Safety will lead the plant's Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) function, ensuring full compliance with statutory requirements while driving a robust safety culture across operations.
- The role ensures implementation of preventive controls, continuous improvement in safety performance, risk mitigation strategies, and readiness for audits and emergencies. This position requires strong knowledge of manufacturing safety systems, legal frameworks, and HSE best practices for high-volume industrial environments.
