A role in Corporate Compliance and Ethics means providing support and managing key compliance areas for Target including stores, distribution centers and at headquarters. You will also be a part of helping Target maintain a positive work environment by coordinating efforts in its Ethics office.
Position Overview :
As a Lead Compliance Consultant at Target, you will lead and continuously mature enterprise’s Responsible AI and Privacy Programs to ensure Target remains in compliance with fast-evolving AI and privacy regulatory obligations and industry standards. You will play a critical role in building Responsible AI program capabilities, monitoring key controls, and developing standards that enable Target to deploy AI responsibly, safely, and at scale.
Core Responsibilities :
- Own and mature Target’s Responsible AI & Privacy compliance management framework, including program documentation, AI use case requirements, control identification, gap analysis against laws and frameworks, and monitoring and reporting.
- Design and implement AI observability practices to monitor compliance with Responsible AI controls (e.g., fairness, transparency, explainability, privacy). Partner with technology teams to develop and maintain tools, dashboards, and reporting mechanisms that enable ongoing oversight of deployed AI models.
- Define program maturity goals, governance frameworks, and operating models to enable responsible and scalable AI adoption.
- Partner with Legal, Technology, and Risk leadership to embed Responsible AI and Privacy-by-Design principles into enterprise operations and product development while overseeing risk identification, assessment and mitigation.
- Develop standards and guidance for Responsible AI compliance, ensuring alignment with global laws and leading industry frameworks. Develop playbooks, guardrails, and decision trees that support responsible scaling of AI.
- Lead training and communication activities to increase awareness of Responsible AI and privacy expectations within business and product teams, including scenario-based training on generative AI and AI model lifecycle risks.
- Lead regulatory change management for rapidly evolving AI and privacy laws, platform rules and emerging industry codes of conduct.
- Define and own reporting and presentations for department leadership, compliance committees, and governance bodies to support decision-making, influence process changes, and track Responsible AI and privacy program activities.
- Act as a trusted advisor to business leaders to arm them with the information they need to make informed decisions on AI risk and personal information collection, use, and sharing.
- Establish metrics and dashboards to monitor program performance, identify trends, and evaluate control effectiveness.
- Facilitate across functional governance forums and influence decision-making among senior stakeholders.
- Drive continuous improvements and automation opportunities to enhance compliance maturity and operational efficiency.
- Engage with external RAI and Privacy networks to stay informed of emerging risks, standards and best practices.

Education & Certifications
Four-year degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in fields such as Law, Computer Science, Data Science, Public Policy, Ethics, or related discipline.Professional certifications preferred : Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP), Certified AI Governance Professional (CAIGP), or other relevant AI / ethics / governance certifications.Experience & Expertise
6-10years of experience within Data Science / AI, Responsible AI, Privacy, Risk, Governance, or related Compliance functions, including direct exposure to AI governance, model lifecycle management, and privacy regulations.Recognized Thought leader of Responsible AI frameworks and principles (e.g., NIST AI RMF, OECD Principles, ISO / IEC 42001 AI standards) and ability to translate them into actionable compliance program activities.Proven ability to design and operationalize AI governance processes, including risk assessments, program documentation, training and awareness, process and data mapping, control design, and monitoring / reporting.Experience in leading cross-functional projects or workstreams at the intersection of compliance, technology, and business strategy. Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced and highly ambiguous environment.Proficiency with data tools (e.g., SQL, Python, R) and visualization platforms (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, cloud dashboards).Knowledge of effective control design (preventive, detective, corrective) and how to embed these into AI / technology-enabled operational processes while ensuring alignment with business objectives.Familiarity with AI / ML systems, generative AI platforms, and third-party vendor tools, including how compliance and risk frameworks apply to these technologies.Skills & Attributes
