The
Senior Associate / Assistant Manager – Form 990
will be responsible for managing compliance engagements for U.S. tax-exempt organizations, reviewing tax returns, leading client communications, and mentoring junior associates. The role requires strong technical knowledge of
IRS Form 990 ,
Form 990-PF , and
Form 990-T , along with experience in handling large data sets and coordinating across teams to ensure timely, accurate, and high-quality deliverables.
Key Responsibilities :
Review and prepare
Form 990, 990-EZ, 990-PF, and 990-T for U.S. tax-exempt organizations.
Manage
end-to-end compliance engagements , including data collection, analysis, tax adjustments, and final review.
Ensure accurate
reporting of revenue, contributions, grants, functional expenses, and investments .
Review
unrelated business income (UBI)
calculations and
supporting schedules .
Provide
technical guidance and training
to junior team members on 990 compliance and reporting standards.
Conduct
research on exempt organization tax issues , including filing requirements, UBIT, lobbying, and governance.
Review
state compliance filings
and ensure adherence to multi-jurisdictional filing deadlines.
Maintain direct communication with clients and U.S. counterparts to resolve queries and review deliverables.
Identify process improvements and assist in implementing automation tools and best practices to improve efficiency.
Support
ad hoc advisory projects
related to exempt organizations as needed.
Required Skills and Qualifications :
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree
in Accounting, Commerce, or Finance.
3+ years of experience in
U.S. tax compliance , with a focus on
Form 990 series
(990, 990-PF, 990-T).
Strong understanding of
IRS regulations for exempt organizations ,
UBIT rules , and
state filing requirements .
Experience using
GoSystem ,
CCH Axcess , or
ProSystem fx
(preferred).
Excellent
analytical and review skills , with attention to accuracy and compliance quality.
Strong
written and verbal communication
skills for effective client and stakeholder interaction.
Proficiency in
Microsoft Excel and data management tools .
Ability to
mentor, supervise, and review
the work of junior team members.
Strong
organizational and time management skills
with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
