We are looking for an experienced Product Development Engineer with expertise in sourcing castings, machining processes, and material science. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in the design, development, and production of high-quality components, ensuring alignment with cost, performance, and manufacturing requirements.
This role requires a strong technical background, exceptional problem-solving skills, and hands-on experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and manufacturers.
Key Responsibilities
Product Design and Development :
- Design and develop components using knowledge of castings, machining, and materials, ensuring optimal performance and manufacturability.
- Analyze and select suitable materials based on product specifications, performance criteria, and cost targets.
- Create detailed technical drawings and 3D models using CAD software.
Sourcing and Supplier Management :
Identify and evaluate suppliers for castings, machined components, and raw materials to ensure quality and cost-effectiveness.Collaborate with suppliers on tooling design, process improvements, and quality standards.Manage supplier relationships to maintain production schedules and resolve supply chain challenges.Conduct technical reviews and audits of supplier manufacturing processes.Process Optimization and Quality Assurance :
Work with cross-functional teams to optimize casting and machining processes, reducing waste and improving efficiency.Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements for materials and components.Perform root cause analysis and corrective actions for production or quality issues.Conduct material testing and evaluation to validate design choices and ensure reliability.Collaboration and Documentation :
Collaborate with internal teams, including R&D, manufacturing, and procurement, to align product development with business objectives.Prepare and maintain detailed documentation, including design specifications, BOMs, and process guidelines.Provide technical support to manufacturing teams during production ramp-up and ongoing operations.Qualifications
Education and Experience :
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).6+ years of experience in product development, with specific expertise in sourcing castings, machining, and material science.Proven experience with manufacturing processes such as sand casting, die casting, and precision machining.Skills and Competencies :
Strong understanding of metallurgy and material properties, including metals, alloys, and composites.Proficiency in CAD softwareExcellent knowledge of machining techniques, tooling, and GD&T principles.Hands-on experience with supplier audits, cost estimation, and vendor negotiations.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.Familiarity with quality systems.Preferred :
Knowledge of advanced manufacturing technologies, such as additive manufacturing or CNC programming.Experience working in industries such as automotive, aerospace, or heavy machinery.
