Main purpose of job :

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve? :

  • All driving duties.
  • Routine checks of vehicle in accordance with current policy and procedures
  • Maintaining accurate vehicle logs and journey records
  • Keeping the vehicle clean and serviceable
  • Reporting any defects
  • Maintain the passengers’ safety by providing safety briefs and ensuring use of seat belts.
  • Maintaining the integrity and security of vehicles in your care.
  • An ability to read and comprehend work / office related emails (as and when needed) .

What we want from you :

A) To remain courteous to passengers.

B) Follow all rules of the road (unless reacting to an emergency) including :

  • Maintaining sufficient manoeuvring space between you and the vehicle in front.
  • Observe national speed limits.
  • Maintain lane discipline – stay within road markings
  • To ensure vehicle is kept in a road worthy condition, including refuelling, lubricants checks, washer fluid checks, tyre checks, passenger compartment equipment serviceability checks (e.g. seat-belts, radio).
  • Complete all associated logs, documents and reports in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Report any defect immediately to the Office Manager.
  • Escort the vehicle at the dealer as necessary during servicing / repair.
  • Wear any officially provided uniform.
  • Read and understand work related emails linked to the role.
  • Language requirements : English and Hindi

    Level of language required :

  • Good spoken English and should be able to understand English.
  • Written – Basic
  • Learning and development opportunities (and any specific training courses to be completed) :

  • First Aid training when available.
  • Defence driving course when available.
  • Working patterns :

    Flexibility to work long hours and on weekends / holidays when required.

    Essential qualifications, skills and experience

    Essential on arrival :

  • Formal qualification is not a requirement, however, good English speaking and understanding skill is expected.
  • To be formally qualified to drive, and in possession of a vailed Indian commercial driving licence for the vehicles they will be required to operate.
  • To have at least four years’ experience of driving SUVs.
  • Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

    Desirable :

  • Any working experience in multinational / multi-cultural companies, diplomatic missions.
  • Work with Defence Sections / Defence driving.

    For British High Commission candidates, the Country Based Staff BHC Terms & Conditions will apply.

    For other than BHC Candidates, salary will be all-inclusive of INR 41,159 month plus 12% Provident Fund and 6% Superannuation.

    Additionally, the BHC offers a great benefits package that includes annual domiciliary medical cover, plus a Group Hospitalisation Scheme with INR 500,000 floater cover for your immediate family which includes self, spouse / partner and children up to an age of 23 years and irrespective of age, only if with, physical or mental disability.

    Please note - Provident Fund Transfer in and out from EPFO is not possible as BHC PF is managed by a private PF trust governed by Indian Income Tax Act, 1961. The staff still has the option to transfer out and in from a privately held PF trust which are not governed by EPFO.

    No relocation or any other related costs or assistance will be provided.

    Please note  - BHC does not deduct tax at source and employees are required to ensure that any requirements of local income-tax law are complied with in full. Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, e.g., some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
