About the Role
We are seeking a visionary and experienced professional to lead our Battery Design division. The Head of Battery Design will be responsible for driving innovation, overseeing the design and development of high-voltage (HV) battery packs for electric vehicles (EVs), and managing a multidisciplinary team. This role demands deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and leadership capabilities to deliver cutting-edge battery solutions for passenger and commercial EVs.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Battery Centre of Competency (CoC) for design and development of Li-Ion battery packs.
- Manage and mentor a team of engineers and managers across multiple battery technology functions.
- Develop and execute short- and long-term technology roadmaps aligned with organizational goals.
- Oversee end-to-end battery pack development : requirement gathering, RFQ preparation, supplier evaluation, design reviews, validation, and release.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including CAE, prototyping, NPI, homologation, and vehicle testing.
- Guide the setup and scaling of in-house battery manufacturing and prototype facilities.
- Engage with global suppliers and partners for cell sourcing and pack integration.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and lead organization-wide HV safety training initiatives.
- Support advanced research initiatives including mentoring academic institutions on emerging technologies like sodium-ion batteries.
- Drive cost optimization, design for manufacturability (DFM), and value engineering (VAVE) initiatives.
Desired Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from IIT or equivalent; Master’s degree preferred.15+ years of experience in R&D, with at least 8 years in battery technology and EV systems.Proven track record of delivering battery packs for commercial and passenger EVs from concept to production.Strong knowledge of battery pack design, BMS, thermal management, and electrical integration.Experience in setting up battery manufacturing infrastructure and managing Capex planning.Familiarity with DFMEA, DVP, DFA, DFS, and other product development methodologies.Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
