Job Title : Business Head Structural Steel (US Market Operations)

Reports To : Director International Business.

Location : Mumbai.

Job Summary :

We seek a highly experienced and strategic leader to serve as the Business Head for our Structural Steel business, specifically focused on serving the US market.

This role holds complete end-to-end responsibility for ensuring the successful execution of all US customer orders, encompassing manufacturing operations, stringent quality control, and efficient dispatch / logistics.

The Business Head will drive operational excellence, ensure customer satisfaction, manage P&L for the unit, and contribute to the strategic growth of our structural steel business in the United States.

Key Responsibilities :

Strategic Leadership & Planning :

  • Develop and implement the operational strategy for the structural steel business focused on the US market, aligning with overall company objectives.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost optimization, and capacity enhancement.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and US regulatory / compliance requirements related to structural steel.

Sales Operations & Business Development :

  • To prepare and achieve annual sales targets and budgets.
  • To map the market and identify potential customers, geographies, and product applications.
  • Coordinating with the US Sales team to get orders on a monthly and yearly basis.
  • Manufacturing Operations Management :

  • Oversee all aspects of structural steel manufacturing, including fabrication, welding, surface treatment, and assembly, ensuring processes meet US customer specifications and timelines.
  • Manage production planning, scheduling, and resource allocation to optimize throughput and efficiency.
  • Ensure adherence to production targets while maintaining the highest safety standards.
  • Implement and manage lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Quality Assurance & Control :

  • Establish, maintain, and enforce rigorous quality management systems (QMS) compliant with relevant international and US standards (e.g., AISC, ASTM, ISO).
  • Oversee all quality control inspections, testing procedures (NDT, DT), and documentation throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Address any quality issues promptly and implement effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Ensure final products consistently meet or exceed US customer quality expectations and contractual requirements.
  • Supply Chain & Logistics Management :

  • Coordinating with the supply chain team in the US to ensure efficient and timely processing of all orders.
  • Oversee the procurement of raw materials and consumables, ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness.
  • Manage inventory levels to support production schedules efficiently.
  • Direct and manage the entire dispatch process, including final inspection, packing, loading, shipping documentation, and coordination with logistics providers for timely and safe delivery to US customers.
  • Ensure compliance with all US import regulations and customs procedures.
  • Financial Management & P&L Responsibility :

  • Develop and manage the annual budget and forecasts for the business unit.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to production, quality, cost, and delivery.
  • Analyze financial performance, identify variances, and implement corrective actions to ensure profitability targets are met.
  • Drive cost-saving initiatives across the operation.
  • Customer Focus (US Market) :

  • Act as a key point of contact for major US customer accounts regarding operational performance, quality, and delivery.
  • Ensure operational capabilities align with US customer needs and contractual agreements.
  • Collaborate with Sales / Business Development teams to support technical aspects of bids and proposals for US projects.
  • Handle and resolve any significant customer complaints or escalations related to operations or quality.
  • Team Leadership & Development :

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the manufacturing, quality, and logistics teams.
  • Foster a culture of safety, quality, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Set performance objectives and conduct performance reviews.
  • Compliance & Safety :

  • Ensure all operations comply with local, national, and relevant international / US environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulations.
  • Required Qualifications & Experience :

    Education : Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Industrial, Metallurgical preferred) or a related field.

    Experience :

  • Minimum 25+ years of progressive experience in heavy manufacturing operations, with significant experience in the steel fabrication or structural steel industry.
  • Minimum 7+ years in a senior leadership role with P&L responsibility.
  • Demonstrable experience managing end-to-end operations (Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain / Logistics) for an export-oriented business, specifically serving the US market.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing complex manufacturing processes and delivering projects on time and within budget.
  • Skills & Knowledge :

  • In-depth knowledge of structural steel fabrication processes, techniques, and equipment.
  • Strong understanding of quality management systems (ISO 9001) and relevant US structural steel codes and standards (AISC, ASTM, AWS).
  • Experience with international logistics, shipping, and US customs procedures.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience managing budgets and P&L.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and standard business software.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Fluent in English (written and verbal).
  • Desired Qualifications :

  • Master's Degree in Engineering or Business Administration (MBA).
  • Experience working directly with US-based construction companies or steel erectors.
  • Certification related to quality management (e.g., Six Sigma Black Belt) or specific industry standards (e.g., AWS Certified Welding Inspector CWI).
  • Experience implementing Lean Manufacturing or other continuous improvement methodologies.
