Job Title : Assistant General Manager - Procurement & Stores

Job Summary :
The AGM - Procurement & Stores will be responsible for leading the procurement of raw materials (such as steel / iron / aluminium castings, metal plates), indirect materials (cutting tools, machine fixtures), capital equipment (CNC machines, measuring equipment), and spare parts.
The role includes end-to-end supplier management, cost control, strategic sourcing, and efficient inventory and stores management to support production in a component machining environment.
Key of Raw Materials :
- Identify and develop suppliers for castings (steel, iron, aluminium), sheets / plates, and other raw materials for machining.
- Negotiate pricing, delivery terms, and quality standards with suppliers.
- Monitor market trends to optimize material costs and availability.
Indirect Procurement :
Procure critical indirect materials like cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, and consumables.Ensure availability of production-critical items with minimal lead time.Standardize tools and fixtures where possible to reduce cost and inventory.Capital Equipment & Spares :
Manage the procurement process for new machinery, CNC equipment, and precision measuring instruments.Work closely with technical teams for specifications, vendor selection, and commissioning.Maintain an adequate stock of machine spares to minimise downtime.Vendor Management & Development :
Develop and evaluate vendor performance based on quality, cost, delivery, and service.Build long-term partnerships with key vendors for critical categories.Conduct supplier audits and support quality and compliance initiatives.Stores & Inventory Management :
Oversee the functioning of the stores department including receipts, storage, and issuance of materials.Implement and enforce inventory control practices (FIFO, stock audits, bin management).Ensure accurate ERP-based inventory records and timely stock & Compliance Management :Drive cost-reduction initiatives through effective negotiation and strategic sourcing.Ensure adherence to procurement policies and compliance with statutory requirements.Collaborate with finance for budget planning and cost reporting.Key Skills and Competencies :
Strong knowledge of procurement processes in component machining industries.Excellent negotiation and supplier management skills.Hands-on experience in the procurement of castings, plates, and capital machinery.Working knowledge of ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.)Understanding of inventory control systems and store operations.Analytical, result-oriented, and excellent leadership skills.Qualifications & Experience :
Bachelors / Master's degree in Mechanical / Production Engineering; MBA in Supply Chain or Materials Management is preferred.12 to 18 years of relevant experience, with at least 35 years in a managerial or AGM-level procurement role.Industry experience in component machining, automotive, or heavy engineering preferred.ref : iimjobs.com)
