Job description

Role Purpose

To lead and optimize fabrication , welding & welding assemblies operations for the pressure vessels and related heavy engineering products (Glass Lining Business), ensuring excellence across Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and Moral (SQDCM). The role will drive process improvement, workforce capability, and operational efficiency to support sustainable business growth.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Safety -SHE , (Safety Compliance -OSHA / factories act , Environmental ISO 140001, Occupational health ISO 45001)
  • Plan, organize, and oversee fabrication operations to meet production, quality, and delivery targets. Coordinate with design ,QA / QC and Project management (central planning & Shop Planning)
  • Optimize plant productivity, Ability to identify the NVA / Bottle necks & define the timebound actionable / , asset utilization, and process efficiency while minimizing waste and cost.
  • Implement continuous improvement practices and modern manufacturing methodologies (Lean, 5S, Kaizen, etc.).

Team & Resource Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of over 300+ personnel to foster a high-performance culture.
  • Ensure effective manpower planning, skill development, and resource allocation across fabrication activities.
  • Maintain a safe, disciplined, and collaborative work environment.
  • Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Drive adherence to international fabrication standards such as ASME Sec VIII , Div 1 & 2 and alternate as applicable to UK / EU, Russia , PED, DIN, and AWS .
  • Oversee NDT procedures (ASME section V) , welding quality, and material handling protocols. Must know the significance of the other ASME sections related to Pressure vessel fabrications (ASME sec II , pressure testing / FAT )
  • Champion EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) practices, ensuring full compliance and safety-first culture.
  • Process Excellence & Cost Management

  • Develop and implement systems to monitor productivity, performance metrics, and return on assets.
  • Lead initiatives for cost optimization and vendor development.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning for fabrication operations.
  • Key performance expectations are FTR, Weld rework rate, OT fabrication Delivery, Welder efficiency / fabrication Measure of Performance (MOP) / Labour efficiency , NDT clearance rate , safety Incidents , Audit compliance
  • Technology & Innovation

  • Stay updated with latest welding technologies and fabrication processes (GTAW, SAW, SMAW, FCAW, GMAW) . Welding procedures & qualifications (WPS / PQR / WPQ),
  • Promote adoption of new tools, automation, and best practices to enhance manufacturing excellence.
  • Traits : Has an analytical acumen to discover gaps / NVA , process bottlenecks, inefficiencies proactively . Action oriented, Self starter, adaptive leadership, collaborative influence, result focus , continuous improvement mindset , Resilience , communication clarity ,Ownership

    Core Performance Metrics

    Develop systems and processes that track and optimize productivity and standards, metrics and performance targets to ensure effective return on assets

    Qualification :

  • B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering (Masters will be preferred)
  • Experience :

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in pressure vessel manufacturing or related fabrication industry.well versed with ASME or IIW standards .
  • Proven experience managing large fabrication teams (300+ workforce).
  • Strong understanding of fabrication codes, welding standards, NDT, and cost control .
