Role

The Design Release Engineer for Driveline will be responsible for translating customer requirements, both stated and unstated, into product specifications, ensuring that all designs meet driveline industry standards and best practices. This role involves leading cross-functional teams, ensuring systematic design and development approaches, conducting stakeholder meetings, and maintaining comprehensive documentation for all released products. The safety, quality, and performance of the product must be prioritized, with timely escalation of any risks. The engineer will also develop DFMEA, ADVP&R, and coach the team to achieve successful product releases.

Primary Responsibilities

Translate customer requirements into detailed product requirements and specifications.

Design and develop driveline products that adhere to industry best practices.

Ensure all designs meet DFX requirements such as DFA (Design for Assembly) and DFM (Design for Manufacturing).

Conduct stakeholder meetings with a clear agenda and maintain detailed meeting minutes.

Develop and maintain DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) for all released products.

Ensure product safety is a priority; escalate any risks or compromises promptly.

Lead the cross-functional team (CFT) to achieve a sound and quality product release.

Maintain a systematic and methodical approach to the design and development process.

Provide training and coaching to CFT members regarding the product.

Develop ADVP&R (Design Verification Plan and Report) for the product.

Apply knowledge of OBJ and IBJ design, including application differences and suitability.

Use in-depth knowledge of boots, axles, and splines in product design and development.

Apply sizing tools for strength and durability prediction.

Conduct thorough analysis of field failures and implement corrective & preventive measures.

Witness and understand various tests at both component and vehicle levels.

Core Responsibilities

Ensure seamless communication and documentation between all stakeholders.

Develop and maintain comprehensive design documentation throughout the product lifecycle.

Support product validation activities and perform design reviews.

Collaborate with the Quality, Manufacturing, and Procurement teams to ensure that designs meet requirements.

Leverage knowledge of local supplier bases and competitor product landscapes to inform design decisions.

Assist in problem-solving and troubleshooting to resolve design, manufacturing, or field issues.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or Mechatronics.

Experience

5-10 years of relevant experience in driveline design, development, and release.

Experience in field failure analysis and strong problem-solving capabilities.

Required Skills

OBJ and IBJ design expertise with knowledge of their application differences and suitability.

Strong understanding of boots, axles, splines, and their application in driveline systems.

Proficiency in using sizing tools for strength and durability predictions.

Ability to conduct thorough field failure analysis and devise appropriate solutions.

Proven leadership skills in managing cross-functional teams for successful product releases.

Strong documentation and communication skills, particularly in reporting and stakeholder meetings.

In-depth understanding of DFX (Design for Excellence), including DFA and DFM.

Witnessing and understanding various tests at both component and vehicle levels.

Preferred Skills

Knowledge of the local supplier base in driveline components and systems.

Familiarity with competitor product landscapes within the driveline industry.
