Work Experience at Lake Mac – University Students

Lake Macquarie City Council provides opportunities for those completing degrees with mandatory placement to explore the workplace and work along trained professionals. These placements are a great opportunity to learn from our staff, gain new skills and on-the-job experience, while exploring possible career opportunities. At Lake Mac, we endeavour to place and support students with their placement, assisting in achieving their professional and educational goals.

APPLYING FOR WORK EXPERIENCE

If you are interested in undertaking work experience with Lake Macquarie City Council and are completing a degree, please submit an application below. As part of your application, you will be asked to include :

Public liability coverage – the insurance must cover your whole placement with council

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Students must provide their public liability insurance from the University of Newcastle to undertake a placement.

Applications for work experience must be made at least 6 weeks prior to the preferred start date for work experience. All requests will be actioned within 48 hours; however, a response may take 14 days from application. If your application is successful, you will be required to undertake a number of online modules, including Code of Conduct, Work Health and Safety and Your Behaviour at Work, prior to the start date.

Council has a random alcohol and other drugs testing program which applies to all employees, volunteers, work experience students, contractors, sub-contractors, labour hire and agency staff.

It is important that you identify which department you would like to experience so that we have a clear understanding of your interests and can match you with the most meaningful area at Council for you.
