About the role
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Data Architect to play a key role in delivering a major IT enhancement initiative within a large, government-focused environment. This role will support the implementation of critical improvements to data architecture, integration, and governance frameworks as part of a broader digital transformation strategy. You will work closely with senior stakeholders, technical teams, and program managers to design and optimise data structures that underpin essential business operations and regulatory functions. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to data-driven decision-making and strengthen organisational data management capability.
Key Responsibilities
Map and analyse existing data holdings, inputs, and dependencies impacted by the enhancement project.
Design and implement robust data architecture and integration frameworks to support best-practice data lifecycle management.
Recommend and document optimised data processes aligned with strategic and operational goals.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to improve data quality, accuracy, and reporting standards.
Support the development of governance processes, policies, and compliance frameworks related to data use and management.
Provide expert advice on data security controls, regulatory requirements, and enterprise system integration.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and knowledge sharing across teams and departments.
Skills and experience
Proven experience as a Data Architect or similar role within complex organisations, ideally in a public sector setting.
Demonstrated ability to assess, optimise, and document data holdings to meet strategic and operational requirements.
Strong understanding of data lifecycle management, integration frameworks, and data governance principles.
Hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM and external portal integration is highly desirable.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to present technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
Strong stakeholder engagement skills with a collaborative and consultative approach.
Understanding of or ability to quickly acquire knowledge of data security controls relevant to government systems.
Desirable
Experience working within regulatory, compliance, or measurement-focused environments.
Background in digital transformation or CRM enhancement projects.
Knowledge of Australian Public Service data governance standards and frameworks.
Security Requirements
The successful candidate must be an Australian citizen and have the ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline Security Clearance. Candidates who already hold a Baseline or higher-level clearance will be highly regarded.
