Workday Test Lead(Workday payroll)

Job Summary :

The Workday Test Lead (Payroll) will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing end-to-end testing of Workday Payroll configurations and integrations. This role will ensure the accuracy, stability, and compliance of payroll processes and integrations with global payroll vendors, General Ledger (GL), and Time & Attendance systems. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in Workday Payroll testing, test management, and documentation.

Key Responsibilities :

1. Test Planning & Leadership

Lead the overall testing strategy and execution for Workday Payroll implementations and enhancements.

Define the testing scope, approach, timelines, and resource requirements for payroll-related projects.

Coordinate with functional, technical, and business teams to ensure thorough test coverage across payroll and integration areas.

Manage test teams (onsite / offshore) and oversee day-to-day testing activities.

2. Test Execution & Management

Lead the testing of Workday Payroll configurations, including pay groups, pay components, period schedules, earning / deduction codes, and allowances.

Plan and execute testing of integrations between Workday and global payroll vendors, GL, and Time & Attendance systems.

Validate payroll calculations, data accuracy, and end-to-end payroll processes.

Track and manage defects through resolution, ensuring quality standards are met prior to deployment.

3. Test Documentation & Reporting

Develop and maintain comprehensive test documentation including test plans, test cases, test scripts, and traceability matrices.

Ensure proper documentation of testing evidence and audit compliance for payroll processes.

Provide detailed test progress and defect reports to stakeholders and project management.

4. Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

Partner with Workday functional consultants, payroll operations, and IT teams to validate end-to-end payroll processes.

Support user acceptance testing (UAT) and coordinate sign-offs from key stakeholders.

Recommend improvements to testing methodologies, tools, and automation opportunities for payroll testing.

Required Skills & Qualifications :

Experience : 7+ years of software testing experience, with 3+ years specifically in Workday Payroll testing .

Technical Expertise :

Strong understanding of Workday Payroll configuration (pay groups, period schedules, pay components, etc.).

Proven experience in testing Workday integrations with global payroll vendors and downstream systems (e.g., GL, Time & Attendance)
