Job description

About the role

We’re looking for a hands-on Quality Engineer who understands IKEA ways of working—code of conduct, product requirements, testing, packaging, traceability, and portal workflows—and can translate them into daily shop-floor routines and reliable, scalable controls. You’ll own incoming-to-dispatch quality, supplier CARs, and audit readiness while partnering with Production, Merchandising, and Compliance to keep first-time-right above target.

What you’ll do

  • IKEA Compliance & Systems
  • Operate confidently within IKEA supplier / quality portals (e.g., documentation uploads, CAR / NC closure tracking, action plans, test reports, packaging data).
  • Embed IKEA requirements (e.g., IWAY / Code of Conduct, product / material / test / packaging standards such as IOS-MAT / IOS-PRG / IOS-TM / packaging specs) into SOPs and work instructions.
  • Prepare, host, and close actions from IKEA audits, technical visits, and social / compliance audits with clear CAPAs and evidence trails.
  • End-to-End Quality Control
  • Build and enforce checkpoints across dyeing, handloom / tuft, washing, shearing, latexing, finishing, and packing; maintain AQL sampling plans; drive in-process patrol audits.
  • Set defect taxonomies (shade, dimension, weave density, pile uniformity, odor / chemical, label / pack), and reduce DPMO through targeted kaizens.
  • Testing & Documentation
  • Coordinate third-party tests (SGS / Intertek / BV) and internal tests (colorfastness, rubbing, flammability where applicable, dimensional stability, fiber / chemical limits).
  • Maintain master files : risk assessments, test plans & frequencies, control plans, SOPs, visual standards, trims & labeling specs, packaging specs and ISTA where required.
  • CAPA & Continuous Improvement
  • Lead 8D / 5-Why / RCA for claims, audit NCs, and internal rejects; verify effectiveness with before / after data.
  • Train supervisors / QA inspectors on IKEA-specific requirements; run layered process audits and Gemba walks.
  • Traceability & Data
  • Ensure batch-level traceability (yarn → loom → lot → finishing → carton → invoice) and complete documentation in ERP; publish weekly quality dashboards.

What you’ll need

  • 4–8 years in Quality for home textiles / floor coverings / furniture hardlines; rugs / carpets experience is a strong plus.
  • Proven experience with IKEA systems and ways of working  (audits, portals, documentation, and standard interpretations).
  • Working knowledge of  AQL , RCA / 8D, FMEA / control plans, packaging validation, and third-party lab coordination.
  • Comfortable with ERP / Excel / Sheets; able to build checklists, trackers, and dashboards.
  • Strong communication with buyers / liaison offices and internal teams; crisp documentation skills.
  • Nice to have

  • Exposure to chemical compliance programs (e.g., restricted substances / risk-based testing), fiber ID, and performance testing for rugs.
  • Lean / Kaizen certifications, ISO 9001 knowledge, or internal auditor background.
  • Key KPIs

  • First-Pass Yield / First-Time-Right (%)
  • Claims rate & cost of poor quality (COPQ)
  • Audit NCs → days to close & recurrence rate
  • In-process defect rate; rework %
  • On-time testing & documentation completeness
