About the role

The Manager - Communications & External Relations primary leads corporate communications and external relationship. The position is responsible for providing strategic direction and leadership in external communication, increasing visibility and supporting the leadership team in strategic engagement with external stakeholders, including current and potential donors.The position acts as the custodian of brand Americares India and works closely with Americares Foundation marketing and communication team based in the USA to strengthen the brand. In addition, the position also provides communication support for projects being implemented and oversee the work of a team member responsible for providing behavior change communication support to project teams.

What will you do in this role (Roles and Responsibilities)

  • Develop an annual external relations plan to engage and communicate with external stakeholders, partners and donors to update them on our work. This would include working on corporate communications materials like flyers, reports, annual reports, stories from the field and media relations.
  • Manage Americares social media handles, website and improve visibility in digital space to amplify our work, impact and improve visibility
  • Work with the leadership team to develop pitch presentations, program briefs, flyers, donor reports, annual reports and proposals.
  • Maintain and develop a database of project photographs, field stories and provide editorial support and oversight for internal and external communications.
  • Explore opportunities for Americares to participate in external meetings, create and manage events that improves our visibility
  • Respond to and manage press relationship as required, including drafting press releases and exploring opportunities in showcasing our work.
  • Work with project managers to support them in developing project impact stories, organizing field visits and support project communication needs.
  • Work with external design, creative agencies / consultants, to design and produce required communication materials.
  • Oversee behavior change communication support for projects provided by communication associate, to project teams.
  • Work closely with marketing and communications teams of Americares Foundation, USA to ensure that all communication materials developed are aligned with Americares branding and messaging guidelines.

We are looking for someone who has

  • A bachelor’s degree, ideally in Communications, PR / Marketing or Journalism, with 5-8 years’ experience in managing communication programs and corporate communication. A master’s degree would be an advantage
  • Demonstrated experience in managing communications in a professional organization
  • Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent writing and editing skills – in English and Hindi. Ability to work in Marathi and Kannada would be an advantage
  • Ability to develop communication briefs that articulate clearly the communication needs and audiences it is meant for
  • Ability to translate stories, data and statistics into compelling statements of Americares work and impact
  • Proficiency in Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with Photoshop, Coral Draw, Canva or other desktop design and publishing software
  • Highly organized, with strong attention to detail and adherence to deadlines
  • Experience coordinating with vendors and publications
  • Proven ability to work effectively and independently, but also to serve as an effective member of a team
  • NOTE : Writing samples will be reviewed for this position.
