Description :
The primary responsibility of this L2 role is to ensure that network changes are implemented smoothly and successfully, covering routing, switching, and various VPN and service technologies. Given the L2 designation and technical depth, this role involves analyzing change requests, creating implementation plans, executing the changes, and performing necessary validations and rollbacks.
Role : L2 - IP Change Management Specialist
Location : Bangalore
Experience : 5 to 8 Years (Mid-to-senior level, suggesting autonomy in complex changes)
Notice Period : Immediate - 30 Days (A rapid hiring need)
Mandatory Technical Skills :
The required skills are deep and practical, indicating a need for a hands-on engineer who is comfortable working with core service provider / large enterprise networking technologies.
1. Routing Expertise :
A deep understanding of how to configure and troubleshoot core routing protocols is essential :
- Routing Protocols : Hands-on configuration and troubleshooting of ISIS, BGP, and OSPF.
- MPLS : Must have practical experience with Multi-Protocol Label Switching, which is the backbone for services like VPNs.
- Fast Reroute : Knowledge of fast convergence and protection mechanisms like IP-FRR (Fast Reroute) and BFD (Bidirectional Forwarding Detection) for quick link failure recovery.
- IPv6 : Experience with the latest internet protocol standard.
2. Switching Expertise :
Expertise in Layer 2 (L2) technologies is crucial for access and data-link management :
Layer 2 Technologies : Proficiency with fundamental concepts like Ethernet, various VLAN standards (802.1Q / P), and Provider Bridging (802.1ad).Spanning Tree : Knowledge of redundancy protocols like STP (Spanning Tree Protocol) and RSTP (Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol).Security & Redundancy : Experience with MACsec (802.1x), ARP, Router Redundancy Protocols (VRRP, HSRP), and Link Aggregation (LAG, MC-LAG).3. Service Provisioning & Troubleshooting :
The role involves managing customer services built on top of the network infrastructure :
VPN Services : Experience troubleshooting and provisioning L2VPN & L3 VPN (which typically run over MPLS), and VPLS (Virtual Private LAN Service).Load Sharing : Ability to configure and troubleshoot traffic distribution based on BGP attributes.4. Service Quality & Automation
Quality of Service (QoS) : Deep understanding of managing service quality using mechanisms like DSCP (IP header marking) and CoS (Layer 2 marking).Service Monitoring : Experience with protocols used to measure network performance, such as TWAMP (Two-Way Active Measurement Protocol) and BFDP SLA.Automation (Preferred) : Basic ability to read / write Python and Ansible scripts is a strong plus, indicating a move towards network automation.5. Platform Knowledge :
Cisco Platforms : Critical knowledge of the Hardware architecture and packet flow within major Cisco operating systems : IOS, IOS-XR, and IOS-XE. This demonstrates an ability to diagnose hardware-level and platform-specific issues.Preferred Qualifications :
