We are seeking a Research Data Specialist – Health to support the delivery and ongoing improvement of high-quality data solutions that underpin innovative health and epidemiological research. In this crucial supporting role, you will work within a multidisciplinary team to maintain and enhance the data infrastructure that allows researchers to access curated, reliable, and timely datasets. Your role will focus on ensuring data is well-organised, accurately documented, and optimised for research use – helping drive impactful insights from population health data.
Key Responsibilities :
Support the design and maintenance of automated cloud-based data pipelines, ensuring secure, scalable, and consistent data flowsCollaborate on the development of validated, well-documented datasets tailored for researcher needsAssist in transforming and preparing survey and observational health data using R / Python and modern cloud toolsMonitor and assess data quality through profiling, reporting, and basic visualisation to flag and help resolve data issuesMaintain metadata systems and data catalogues to support discoverability, traceability, and usability across datasetsContribute to documentation and data governance activities, including dataset versioning, consent mapping, and ethical useWork closely with researchers, data engineers, and domain experts to ensure data meets ethical, analytical, and quality standardsWhat We’re Looking For :
A degree (Honours, Masters or PhD) in data science, public health, health informatics, epidemiology, or a related quantitative fieldHands-on experience working with health, clinical, or population-level datasetsFamiliarity with cloud-based data tools and workflows (Azure, AWS or GCP), plus scripting in R or PythonA solid understanding of data documentation, validation processes, and metadata standardsGood communication skills and a collaborative mindset, with a keen interest in supporting health research initiativesAbility to manage competing demands and contribute to shared project goals in a dynamic team environmentTo be considered for this role, you must be an Australian Permanent Resident or an Australian Citizen.
