Job Summary :
We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented AS400 Administrator to manage and support our IBM iSeries / AS400 systems.
The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in AS400 system operations, backup and recovery, security management, and performance tuning, ensuring high availability and optimal performance of our enterprise Responsibility Areas (KRAs) :
- Monitor, manage, and maintain the AS400 / iSeries environment to ensure high system availability and performance.
- Perform regular system backups, disaster recovery testing, and restore procedures.
- Manage user profiles, authorities, and overall system security settings.
- Conduct performance tuning and capacity planning to support business growth.
- Apply patches, PTFs (Program Temporary Fixes), and OS upgrades in coordination with change management policies.
- Troubleshoot hardware and software issues within the AS400 environment and provide root cause analysis.
- Automate recurring operational tasks using CL, RPG, or shell scripts.
- Collaborate with development and application support teams for system and application deployments.
- Ensure compliance with IT security and audit requirements.
- Maintain documentation related to configurations, processes, and disaster recovery plans.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior AS400 administrators.
- Support 24x7 on-call rotation as needed for critical Skill Set :
- Extensive experience in IBM iSeries / AS400 system administration.
- Proficiency in CL (Control Language) and RPG scripting.
- Strong knowledge of AS400 backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes.
- Experience with IBM i Access, BRMS (Backup, Recovery and Media Services), and iSeries Navigator.
- Expertise in system monitoring tools and job scheduling tools like Robot, Halcyon, or HelpSystems.
- Strong understanding of TCP / IP, FTP, DNS, and other networking concepts within AS400.
- Familiarity with PowerHA or high availability systems on IBM i.
- Ability to manage system resources, subsystems, job queues, and device configurations.
- Knowledge of ITIL best practices for incident, problem, and change management.
- Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Experience in compliance-heavy industries such as banking, insurance, or healthcare is a (Preferred but not mandatory) :
- IBM Certified System Administrator IBM i
- ITIL Foundation Certification
