Designation : Oracle + Cassandra DBA

Experience : 5 Years

Location : Delhi, India

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Oracle + Cassandra DBA to manage and optimize our critical database infrastructure. The ideal candidate will possess hands-on expertise in both Oracle and Cassandra databases, with a strong focus on installation, maintenance, performance tuning, and troubleshooting in dynamic environments. This role requires a blend of database administration, automation, and problem-solving skills to ensure high availability and efficient operation of our data platforms.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Perform end-to-end installation of Apache Cassandra and DataStax Enterprise (DSE) Cassandra databases on both bare-metal servers and cloud environments.
  • Execute seamless upgrades of existing Apache / DSE Cassandra databases to higher versions,

ensuring data integrity and minimal downtime.

  • Conduct comprehensive data migration activities on Cassandra DB, including planning,
  • execution, and validation.

  • Debug complex issues and implement effective fixes on Cassandra DB in close collaboration
  • with application development teams.

  • Conduct regular capacity planning for Cassandra DB clusters to ensure scalability and optimal
  • resource utilization for future growth.

  • Manage Cassandra nodes, including adding or removing individual nodes or entire data
  • centers to existing clusters.

  • Develop and implement automation scripts and tools using Shell script and Python for system monitoring, dashboard creation, and routine operational tasks.
  • Work with automation tools such as Ansible and containerization technologies like Docker, demonstrating a good understanding of Ansible playbooks.
  • Set up and configure DataStax OpsCenter for centralized monitoring and management of Cassandra clusters.
  • Possess a strong understanding of database security, including certificates, and how keystore / truststore mechanisms function within the database environment.
  • Demonstrate good exposure to authenticating Cassandra DB using JMX (Java Management Extensions).
  • Possess a solid understanding of JVM internals, including Heap memory management and Garbage Collection processes in databases.
  • Address and resolve Central Station tickets and Radars assigned by different application teams, ensuring timely and effective problem resolution.
  • Maintain a basic understanding of Elasticsearch, including creating Elasticsearch indexes and building dashboards using index metrics.
  • Maintain a basic understanding of Solr / Spark, including creating Solr indexes and managing Spark jobs for data processing.
  • Provide robust database support in Linux and cloud environments.
  • Actively participate in an on-call support rotation to ensure 24 / 7 availability and quick response to critical database incidents.
  • Required Skills & Qualifications :

  • Experience : 5 years of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator with expertise in both Oracle and Cassandra databases.
  • Cassandra Expertise : Proficient in Cassandra DB installation, upgrade, data migration, troubleshooting, capacity planning, and node management (add / remove).
  • Scripting & Automation : Strong skills in Shell scripting and Python for automation, monitoring, and operational tasks.
  • Automation Tools : Experience with Ansible and Docker, including a good understanding of Ansible playbooks.
  • Monitoring Tools : Knowledge of setting up and utilizing OpsCenter for Cassandra monitoring.
  • Database Security : Good understanding of database security concepts, including certificates,
  • keystore / truststore, and JMX authentication.

  • JVM Fundamentals : Solid understanding of Java Virtual Machine (JVM) internals, specifically
  • Heap memory and Garbage Collection.

  • Operating Systems : Experience supporting Linux environments.
  • Problem-Solving : Strong diagnostic, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Collaboration : Ability to work independently and collaboratively to support local, regional,
  • and global teams.

  • Multitasking : Proven ability to manage multiple assignments effectively in a fast-paced
  • environment.

  • Ticketing Systems : Knowledge of ticketing tools such as Remedy.
  • ITIL Principles : Solid understanding of ITIL principles and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Search / Analytics Exposure : Basic understanding of Elasticsearch (index creation,
  • dashboarding) and Solr / Spark (index creation, Spark jobs).
