We are looking for a skilled and experienced Mainframe Developer with a strong background in COBOL, JCL, CICS, and DB2.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in complex mainframe environments, with a focus on performance tuning, debugging, and batch / online processing.
Exposure to modernization tools and cloud integration will be an added Responsibilities :
- Design, develop, and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL, JCL, CICS, and DB2.
- Develop and maintain batch jobs and online programs in a z / OS environment.
- Perform code reviews, unit testing, and integration testing to ensure software quality.
- Debug and troubleshoot issues in mainframe programs using tools like TSO / ISPF, SDSF, and other mainframe utilities.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and deliver scalable solutions.
- Handle performance tuning of applications and jobs to optimize system resources and execution time.
- Ensure adherence to security protocols and compliance standards using tools like RACF.
- Support mainframe modernization initiatives, including analysis and migration to distributed / cloud platforms (preferred).
- Participate in production deployments, issue triaging, and post-production support.
- Maintain accurate documentation of all development activities and Skills & Qualifications :
- 813 years of hands-on experience in mainframe application development.
- Strong proficiency in :
a. COBOL programming
b. JCL (Job Control Language)
c. CICS for transaction processing
d. DB2 or similar databases
Familiar with TSO / ISPF, SDSF, and mainframe debugging tools.Solid understanding of z / OS architecture and mainframe security (e.g., RACF).Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills.Experience working in an Agile or DevOps environment is a plus.Excellent communication and analytical skills.Mainframe Modernization experience (e.g., re-platforming, re-hosting).Exposure to cloud integration and API-based interfaces.Knowledge of version control systems, preferably Git.Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.Work in a stable and technically advanced mainframe environment.Be part of challenging modernization and transformation projects.Collaborative work culture with learning and growth opportunitiesref : hirist.tech)
