  • Role Overview :   Perform model validation of internal capital models

Key Responsibilities

This position is for a model validation specialist to be a of the Chubb Global team for Model Risk and Validation. Model validation primarily involves validation of models used to measure capital requirements for Group and various subsidiaries. Our work combines annual review of model changes and model results for various subsidiaries subject to Solvency II or the Swiss regulatory solvency test, and topical validation topics which are of interest to Chubb management and our supervisory authorities including financial regulators and Lloyd's. We may also validate models outside of capital modeling in response to demand that may arise.

Validation actuaries' primary focus is to understand and challenge the actuarial and economic methods and assumptions used in models, and to validate other areas including governance, data quality, documentation and the understanding & compliance of model teams with regulatory standards. It involves decomposing methods from first principles, identifying underlying assumptions either by reference to the literature and / or by inventive thinking.

The position relies heavily on the excellent communication skills of team members, not least because of the diversity of team members' geographical locations. Our team members have great visibility, taking responsibility and credit for their work to the maximum extent possible with internal and occasionally external audiences, including financial supervisory authorities and Lloyd's.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Essential Skills : Proven experience in general actuarial fields within the insurance industry, preferably Property and Casualty insurance. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing reports and presentations for various audiences.
  • Preferred Skills : A strong enthusiasm for the intellectual and business opportunities that validation provides. Experience in insurance risk capital modelling is an added advantage. R experience is helpful, and willingness to learn this approach is required.
  • Education : Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Finance, or a related field;  Master’s degree / Qualified (Nearly Qualified) Actuary / CFA / similar professional qualification with relevant experience is preferred.
  • Experience : A minimum of five years in Property and Casualty insurance
