Gaysi Family, founded in 2008, is a media platform and community space for queer desis, amplifying individual voices and experiences from Southeast Asia. We encourage reflection and understanding of queerness as a philosophy and sensibility beyond sexual orientations and gender identities. At Gaysi we collaborate with brands and organizations to create gender- expansive and queer-affirmative media assets and events.
Gaysi Family also functions as a creative agency partner for other brands, where we design messaging, and full creative campaigns to drive partner brand awareness and visibility.
We are seeking a full-time, on-site junior Illustrator to join Gaysi Family in Mumbai. Must be based in Mumbai, ideally in the suburbs.
Key Responsibilities :
Create Diverse Illustrations
- Design inclusive, vibrant illustrations tailored for queer audiences across digital platforms.
- Explore and apply various art styles – from soft and dreamy to bold and chaotic – depending on the project vibe.
Design Social-First Visual Content
Produce compelling visual assets optimized for Instagram, and other platforms.Work on layouts, typography, and compositions that adhere to brand guidelines and other social media requirement and briefsExperiment with Aesthetics & Formats
Contribute to pushing visual boundaries by playing with new formats, color palettes, and visual languages.Help prototype unconventional content ideas like zines, interactive posts, memes, or carousel stories.Collaborate with the Creative Team
Work closely with designers and writers to brainstorm, develop, and refine content.Participate in creative jams and feedback sessions.Trend Research & Rule-Bending
Track illustration, design and social trends—then remix them through a queer lens.Challenge norms and aesthetic conventions while keeping content engaging and relatable.Support Brand Projects
Assist with creating assets that align with brand projects while keeping in mind the brief, tone of voice, etcHelp maintain visual consistency while embracing playfulness and innovation.Prioritize Queer Joy & Visibility
Ensure that all visual content is inclusive, affirming, and celebrates the full spectrum of queer identities and experiences.Approach projects with authenticity, empathy, and a sense of fun.Requirements :
Professional experience as an illustrator in a full-time role for 1+ years or 2+ years in a freelance capacity.A strong portfolio showcasing a diversity of visual styles and approaches to creative thinking.Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and other relevant illustration / design software.Understanding of queer culture and a commitment to inclusive and respectful representation.Ability to take feedback constructively and adapt to evolving project needs.Strong attention to detail, time management, and the ability to meet deadlines.A collaborative mindset and willingness to work closely with cross-functional teams.Location : On-site (Khar West, Mumbai)
Compensation : 3.5Lacs-4.5Lacs (annual)
