An XBRL Specialist with experience across multiple reporting mandates (including SEC, ESMA, HMRC, etc.) and expertise in XBRL validation tools is responsible for preparing, tagging, validating, and submitting financial and regulatory reports using XBRL standards and taxonomies. Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and tag financial statements and disclosures using jurisdiction-specific taxonomies (e.g., US GAAP for SEC, ESEF / IFRS for ESMA, UK GAAP for HMRC)
- Maintain up-to-date expertise in XBRL taxonomies, regulatory changes, and compliance requirements for multiple jurisdictions, including SEC (USA), ESMA (EU), and HMRC (UK)
- Prepare, review, and validate XBRL files for accuracy, completeness, and compliance, leveraging various XBRL validation tools such as Arelle, as well as other industry-standard platforms
- Troubleshoot XBRL tagging and validation errors, including resolving SEC validation errors and ensuring successful submission to regulatory portals
- Create and manage customized extension tags when standard taxonomy elements are insufficient, ensuring proper mapping and documentation
- Advise management and stakeholders on trends, changes, and best practices in XBRL reporting, digital regulatory compliance, and validation tool usage
- Assess, test, and assist in implementing XBRL reporting and validation software to enhance efficiency and accuracy
- Support internal and external audits by providing XBRL data, validation reports, documentation, and explanations as required
- Ensure internal controls over financial reporting are designed and operating effectively, especially as they relate to XBRL submissions and validation
- Train and mentor team members on XBRL best practices, taxonomy updates, regulatory requirements, and effective use of validation tools
Required Skills and Qualifications
Proven experience with XBRL tagging and reporting for multiple regulatory frameworks (SEC, ESMA / ESEF, HMRC, CIPC, etc.)Expertise with XBRL validation tools and familiarity with other leading platformsIn-depth understanding of XBRL taxonomies (US GAAP, IFRS, UK GAAP, industry-specific taxonomies) and extension creationProficiency with XBRL software platforms and validation environmentsStrong knowledge of financial reporting standards and regulatory filing processes in the US, EU, and UKAdvanced skills in Excel and familiarity with financial reporting systemsAnalytical mindset with attention to detail and problem-solving abilitiesEffective communication skills for working with internal teams, management, auditors, and regulatorsBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, or a related field; professional certifications (CPA, ACCA, etc.) are a plusPreferred Experience
