Insurance Architect Job Description

The Enterprise Architect will drive architectural standards and modernization initiatives across large-scale insurance applications, ensuring alignment with business strategy, scalability, security, and regulatory requirements, and AI goals. This is a  hands-on  leadership role demanding technical depth, strategic thinking, and a solid understanding of insurance products and data ecosystems and AI / ML-driven digital transformation.

Required Skills & Experience :

12+ years of hands-on software architecture experience in  insurance (Property & Casualty, Retirement Annuities)  domains.

  • Strong proficiency in  .NET Core / .NET Framework  application design and development.
  • Expertise in  Azure and AWS  services (e.g., App Services, Azure Kubernetes Service, Azure SQL, Azure Functions, API Management, Event Grid, Service Bus).
  • Deep understanding of  large application data handling  – including performance tuning, partitioning, data lake architecture, and ETL processes.
  • Proven experience designing microservices architectures and securing enterprise systems in regulated industries.
  • Familiarity with insurance industry standards such as ACORD, ISO standards, or regional compliance regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, capable of bridging technical and business needs at an executive level.
  • Experience with integration platforms, API-led architecture, and enterprise service bus (ESB) patterns.
  • Proficiency in AI / ML solution architecture and orchestration using Azure & AWS AI services (Azure OpenAI, Cognitive Services, ML Studio).
  • Experience integrating AI capabilities (e.g., intelligent document processing, predictive modeling, claims triage automation) into insurance workflows.
  • Understanding of Responsible AI, model governance, and compliance within highly regulated insurance environments.
  • Proven experience in leading AI adoption roadmaps and pilot projects (e.g., chatbots, NLP-based underwriting assistants, fraud detection algorithms).
  • Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field; TOGAF, Azure Architect certifications preferred .
  • Prior experience working directly with Insurance or similar multi-line global insurers.
  • Background in re-platforming or refactoring large insurance legacy systems to modern cloud-native architectures.
  • Experience with modern CI / CD pipelines using Azure and AWS DevOps.
  • Exposure to data analytics solutions within insurance (Power BI, Azure Synapse, Data Bricks).

Job Responsibilities

  • Define and govern enterprise architecture principles, frameworks, and roadmaps tailored to the insurance industry (Property, Casualty, Retirement Annuities etc.).
  • Architect end-to-end insurance application ecosystems, focusing on  cloud native solutions in Azure and AWS .
  • Lead architectural reviews and technical design sessions with engineering teams.
  • Engage directly with business and technology stakeholders to translate complex insurance requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Design and oversee large data migrations, API integrations, and modernization of legacy insurance systems.
  • Champion best practices in  DevOps ,  Cloud Security ,  Microservices , and  Data Governance  within insurance contexts.
  • Lead AI integration initiatives, evaluating AI use cases that deliver measurable business value (e.g., automated claims intake, risk scoring, document summarization).
  • Partner with data science and engineering teams to deploy AI / ML pipelines in production, ensuring scalability, security, and performance.
  • Conduct hands-on proof of concepts (PoCs), code reviews, and performance optimization for mission-critical applications.
  • Act as the technical advisor on compliance (e.g., GDPR, APRA, ISO27001) impacting insurance data architectures.
