Khalis Foundation builds and maintains open-source Sikh technology used by millions worldwide—apps like SikhiToTheMax, Sundar Gutka, BaniDB, and new AI initiatives that safeguard Gurbani’s integrity in the digital age. We are dedicated to providing resources to Sikh youth and children, promoting the Sikhi spirit. We strive to foster Gurmat within today's Sikhs by offering much-needed tools and resources. Our mission is to serve the Sikh Sangat and humanity by spreading the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

Role Description

This is a contract, remote role for a Technical Project Manager. We’re looking for a hands-on Technical Project Manager who can run agile projects end-to-end in GitHub—from sprint planning and issue triage to release notes—while coordinating engineers, Gurmat scholars, designers, and stakeholders across time zones. You’ll shepherd our new Gurbani Translation Engine and other core products to timely, high-quality releases.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Project Management and Program Management
  • Strong Team Leadership and Communication skills
  • Agile & GitHub Ops
  • Own project boards, issue templates, labels, milestones, and automation.
  • Facilitate sprint planning, daily stand-ups, retros, and release ceremonies entirely in GitHub (Projects, Discussions, Actions).
  • Cross-Functional Coordination
  • Translate product requirements into technical tasks for engineers and data teams.
  • Sync with reviewers to integrate feedback loops.
  • Timeline & Scope
  • Maintain Gantt / roadmap views (GitHub Projects, Mermaid, or similar). Flag scope creep or resource gaps early; propose trade-offs.
  • Quality & Documentation
  • Ensure PRs meet security, code-style, and theological guardrails.
  • Publish release notes, changelogs, and user-facing summaries.
  • Stakeholder Reporting
  • Produce concise weekly status updates for leadership & donors.
  • Present progress in community meetings and demo days.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • 3+ years managing software projects (Scrum / Kanban) with GitHub or GitLab as the primary PM tool.
  • Solid grasp of issue / workflow automation (GitHub Actions, Projects beta, labels, CLI).
  • Ability to read technical specs (REST, JSON, basic Dockerfile) and converse fluently with engineers.
  • Proven record shipping products.
  • Strong communication skills across technical & non-technical audiences; clear written English.
  • Comfort facilitating meetings across North American & Asia time zones.

    • Nice to Haves

  • Familiarity with LLM / RAG workflows or NLP pipelines.
  • Past involvement in open-source communities or non-profit tech.
  • Basic understanding of Punjabi / Gurmukhi or Sikh heritage (big plus).
  • Experience integrating scholar or regulatory review loops into agile processes.
